Memorabilia Monday: Live in Chicago 23.10.95

Twenty years ago, on October 23rd, 1995, Smashing Pumpkins debuted their first double album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. The record release party was held at the Riviera Theater, in Chicago, IL. Delabel (the French subsidiary to Hut Recordings – UK) released a rare, commemorative promotional CD (pictured) that was packaged with certain copies of Mellon Collie that features five tracks from that broadcast; “Tonight, Tonight”, “Zero”, “Today”, “Disarm”, and “Bullet with Butterfly Wings”. “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” was also officially released on this day as limited single in multiple countries.

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness went on to be certified Diamond (10 million copies sold) by the RIAA. The double album was a huge commercial success and was coupled with a grueling, multi-year, worldwide supportive tour. As a milestone in rock and roll nostalgia and mid-90s alternative music, October 23rd, 2015 will mark an album that is two decades old, but still full of substantive music that resonates to this day.
