IT A’ING GOT THAT THING IF IT A’INT GOT THAT SCHTING / SP ALBUM UPDATE

A long day for yours truly, being that I was up quite early to make my way downtown for interviews. And I’m grateful for those opportunities, so no complaining here. As a hometown Chicago has been generous to me, but never to a fault. As is our way.

Then a business meeting, then getting The Shredder lost as last night I managed to give myself a concussion (don’t ask) and was still a bit loopy.

With a PAWS event looming at Zuzu’s I knew our session would be curtailed, and the focus in that fell on bass sound (amp, instrument) and re-cutting our basic demos with core sounds. So over ANTI-HERO, ONE AND ALL, and DORIAN we confirmed arrangements with the notion that once we’ve gone through the other 6, we’ll dive into overdubs and vocal arrangements; giving us for the first time a pretty clear record of the album’s blueprint. Exciting stuff.

And one side note: there is an expectation in the modern marketplace that extra tracks be provided to certain retailers, which on the face of it is the current shing-a-ling of providing b-sides (something I’ve enjoyed through the years). Generally speaking we’ve leaned towards just recording the next best songs for that purpose; like BURNT ORANGE BLACK. But I’ve nixed that, and we’ll treat those b-sides as sessions of their own merit, using most likely cover songs. Certainly it’ll be more fun.
